What you can expect?

Start your day by visiting the world-renowned Akrotiri excavations at the southern coast of Santorini. With the help and the provided information by your expert licensed guide, find yourselves walking on streets and houses of the Bronze Age! The settlement of Akrotiri is thought to be the most important city of Thera before the destructive eruption which obliterated the site and caused the downfall of the great Minoan civilisation. The layer of volcanic ash deposited on the island, literally kept the city in a time capsule, stunning the archaeologists that found it in the 20th century. Known as the prehistoric Pompeii, the level of preservation and sophistication that the Bronze Age people had will definitely surprise you. Listen to the stories of mythical Atlantis that Plato described and find the similarities to the site of Akrotiri.

Continue your day with a local wine tasting experience to 3 different traditional wineries. Let yourselves loose on the experienced hands of the trained sommeliers and let your senses open to the potent flavours of Greek wine. Start with the Boutari winery, a family-launched business that came to conquer the whole international scenery with the production of top quality wines. Learn about the Therian tradition of wine-making and walk at the very fields that produce the pearl-sized grapes. At the Gavalas winery, a family-run business since the 19th century, you will explore the history of winemaking on Santorini, explore its culture and taste the Vinsanto varietal wine, particularly favoured by monasteries and churches for the preparation of Holy Communion.

Finish your day at the Karamolegos winery and see from up close how the owners successfully combine traditional methods with modern equipment to produce aged wines of top-quality and upscale taste. To enhance your tastings, a platter of appropriately selected local cheese and snacks will be available at each winery stop of the tour.

  • We stopped in Santorini on our RCCL cruise last month Two couples celebrating their 25th anniversary. Had a great time and enjoyed the tour! Dimitri was very nice and accommodating when we wanted to “detour” from the planned itinerary. Would recommend getting off the ship as quickly as you can and get up the cable car to meet as early as possible. It can get quite crowded with all the cruise ships and you want to hear the crowds. The wine tour was very interesting given their climate and how they have to grow the grapes.
