Tour Highlights

  • Cape Sounion, home to the God of the Sea, is the ideal place to discuss the underlying rivalry between Annabeth and Percy!
  • Explore the Percy Jackson world in person, with Poseidon’s Temple at your fingertips.
  • Beautiful scenic drive along the exquisite Athenian Riviera while learning all about the mythology surrounding Percy’s father’s home.
  • Decide on finishing your day with a delicious meal in a welcoming traditional restaurant with splendid sea views.
  • Enjoy either a small break for a swim during summer months at Sounio beach or at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center for snacks and sightseeing during winter.

What you can expect?

On the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula lies the Temple of Poseidon. Home to Percy Jackson’s father Poseidon, the god of the Sea, the temple with its towering Doric columns and spectacular views across the Aegean is a sight to behold.
As you take the scenic drive from Athens along the coast to Cape Sounio, your expert family-friendly guide will share exciting myths and history that inspired Percy’s story and adventures. You will learn about how Percy’s unpredictable personality has taken after his father, resembling his father’s kingdom, the sea.

During summer months, stop en route to the beach just below the temple of Poseidon and give in to an hour of relaxation in the refreshing waters of the Aegean Sea. Enjoy the sun and the sea, while having some cool refreshments that will energise you enough to ascend to the top of the hill of Poseidon, the southernmost point of Attica.

In winter, since the temperatures do not allow a dip into the waters of Sounio, you will have the chance to visit for an hour the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, a newly-built complex located at the grounds of Phalero, an example of modern architecture that combines simple lines with the natural landscape and exploits the climate and seasonality of Attica. Wander around the award-winning Mediterranean Garden of the Cultural Center and head to the Pharos, where you can gaze at the expanse of the Aegean Sea. Have a look in the National Library of Greece or the impressive National Opera House while having a cup of coffee, a beverage or some snacks by the canal of the SNFCC.

Upon arrival, explore this place of beauty and historical importance and hear of the many tales it holds, from the ill-fated King Aegeus to Percy’s half-brother Theseus! For a truly wonderful experience why not extend your day and enjoy a family dinner together at Cape Sounio at an excelled seafood tavern?  A mythical family adventure is awaiting!

The temple of Poseidon

The first writer who refers to Sounio is Homer in his “Odyssey”, as “the sacred cape of the Athenians”. The majestic Temple of Poseidon was completed around 444-440 BC. For 3 centuries the sanctuary was considered to be a sacred place for the Greek people and a grand four-yearly festival was organized there, with officials sailing there in a sacred ship.

  • We had such a lovely time with Evita. She was wonderfully engaging with the kids in the group (which with our 8 year old can be challenging) as well as the adults and we feel blessed to have had the luck of such a great guide with us. Sounio and the thermal springs for the kids was a highlight with the little fish tickling their toes. My kids both have her such big hugs when they left. We really enjoyed our day.

  • My 8 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed our Percy Jackson tour of the acropolis and afternoon tour to Sounion to see the Temple of Poseidon. Our tour guide, Mary-Helena was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the history, archeology, Greek mythology and of course Percy Jackson. She was very kind and patient with my son. The tour was well organized at every step. Highly recommend!
