When you wake up in Athens to a sunny sky -which happens more often than not- all you can think about is a morning stroll downtown. A walk around the streets of Plaka and Psirri will make you feel content, as the sun's heat doesn't only warm your skin, but your soul as well. Put on your sunglasses and your most comfortable shoes, turn your summer mood on and begin your exploration of two of the city's most magnificent neighborhoods!

Plaka has always been a popular place for a perfect walk in Athens. Despite it being located in the heart of the city, this neighborhood offers an ideal escape from the crowd and the noise. Personally, I love visiting Plaka in order to read a book, while sitting on a bench at Lisiou Street, the street that leads to the scenic district of Anafiotika. If you have enough time to walk Plaka's streets, you will be lost in the beauty of the neighborhood with the admirable neoclassical buildings. Noone that has visited Plaka has ever left anything but stunned by its charm. If you have the opportunity to visit Plaka during sunset, grab it! The unique Athenian sky dressed in the shades of orange and pink is a sight to behold!

Best of Athens in One Day: Acropolis & City Tour with Transfer

Psirri represents an alternative side of Athens, one that is reserved only for the knowledgable visitors and the locals of the city. It is an area with a cool ambiance and an authentic Greek character. Wandering around the streets of Psirri, you'll witness the impressive street art that decorates the neighborhood's walls with graffiti from the most reputable Greek street artists, while you will discover a selection of exceptional restaurants, cafés, and bars. There, you can enjoy from Jazz to rebetiko, from savory meze dishes to luscious desserts, and from refreshing cocktails to traditional ouzo. Whatever you're after, in Psirri, you're sure to find it! Did we mention there's ouzo?
